The US DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration has provided the following information regarding the number of gas distribution pipeline leaks from 2005 to 2013.

In terms of the excavator type for pipeline incidents caused by excavation damage, the PHMSA provided the following information.
The number of the gas pipeline by system type as of 2013 is provided below. These numbers will change rapidly upwards due to tens of thousands of new gas pipeline being installed throughout the United States.
